Testimonials

"I love gardening, however as a career woman and a mother I find it difficult to be in ten places at once. Sometimes my houseplants and hanging baskets are neglected and I only water them when they begin to wilt. Now I've found a solution, with Plantpal I have blooming great moist plants indoors and outdoors all of the time, making my friends and neighbours wonder how I manage to "do it all". Even better, I don't have to give anyone a key when I go on holiday as I know Plantpal will keep my plants watered for up to a month in my absence. It truly is a wonder for those with busy lifestyles, and a great gist for the person who seems to have it all!"

Keeping containers well watered in summer can be very time consuming, and a hot spell can dry them out with alarming speed. The GardenNews panel tested new products designed to reduce watering need and was very impressed. One tester returned from an unexpectedly extended holiday to find his plants were still in fine form. It was a bit awkward to setup and get the level to the top just right. This is a good product especially if you are going away. It worked well over our holidays.

Hanging Baskets Are  A Real Delight

These days, flower hanging baskets have become an ideal solution for people who are lacking any garden space. These baskets can be hanged in balconies, verandahs and window decks. The basket should be at least 14 inches in height. If it is smaller than that, then it will lose its water content quite easily. Definitely, watering is the most crucial part of a hanging basket.

There are many tips that you can keep in his mind while purchasing or preparing these hanging baskets:

The soil mixture should be lightweight so that the weight of the basket is low. There can be many arrangements made for watering these hanging baskets. Make use of moisture preservation granules, which soaks up the underground moisture. When the basket loses its water content, then the granules will provide the water with their stored moisture. You can add these granules separately to the hanging basket. For additional and more reliable storage use the Plantpal hanging basket watering system which stores a good quantity of water which is released on demand. The inside of a basket can be lined with some coconut fibre lining. For prevention of water loss, cover this fibre with some plastic bin facing. The plastic bin fibre can be prepared from your trash bag after covering it.

It is also necessary to use a slow releasing fertilizer in the basket. This will provide an impetus to the growth of plants. There are many choices in the flower hanging baskets like Petunia, Sweet pea, Dichondra, Lobelia and Begonia. Even tomatoes are an excellent option for the hanging basket plants. If the water has totally desiccated from the hanging basket, then it is recommended that you immerse it in a water bucket. This method cannot be used very frequently and the correct methodology would be to water the plant-hanging basket on a regular basis. It is necessary to put water in a hanging basket on a daily basis especially in hot weather so that the plants do not wither away. In summer, there might be a need to water the hanging plants twice a day to prevent their drying. Water the basket from the apex.

The sides of the hanging basket should be rotated continuously for letting it get the maximum sunlight. In this case, it is beneficial to use the swivel hanging basket. In a basket, the plant layout should be to plant the taller hanging plants on the northern side and the shorter on the southern side. This will make sure that the shorter plants are able to get the requisite sunlight. Another very vital component of a hanging basket would be to add compost to it. You can easily mix a mediocre amount of fertilizer granules with some water preservation granules into compost. After that, prepare 1-inch compost layer at the bottom of the basket. Then plant the flower basket till the rim. One can simply add to the visual delight by choosing an attractive colour scheme. You can combine the white and pink flowers or the yellow and red flowers. Usually most of the hanging baskets are built from metals supported by cuffs.
